CM Punk Declares WWE Raw’s Netflix Debut Outperformed WrestleMania in Viewing Numbers

CM Punk shared his thoughts on why he considers his match to be more significant than WrestleMania 41 during WWE Raw’s Netflix debut on January 6th. Speaking at San Diego’s Comic-Con, he expressed how meaningful it was to headline his first Monday Night Raw main event on Netflix. He acknowledged that WWE’s shift to Netflix was a major change, and being chosen for that moment was particularly special for him, especially given the challenges he had faced.

The “Second City Saint” revealed that the initial plan was for him to face Seth Rollins in a singles match at WrestleMania 40. However, when Netflix launched WWE Raw, CM Punk realized this was even bigger than WrestleMania. He mentioned that he only had one opportunity to be part of the premiere episode on the new platform, and being the main event of that show meant a great deal to him.

Punk explained, “I understood that this was a significant shift for WWE. Monday Night Raw was moving to Netflix, and I got to headline the very first episode on the new platform. It wasn’t just something I realized—it truly resonated with me. Although Seth and I were originally set for a singles match at WrestleMania, I injured my triceps. So, plans changed, but then the Netflix debut took place, and for me, that was bigger than WrestleMania because you get only one chance to be part of the first show. Being on that card meant everything. Every time I walk through the locker room, I feel fortunate to be among such talented athletes. Headlining the first Netflix Raw was undoubtedly a major milestone.”
