Chelsea Green Reacts with Shock to Missing Out on SummerSlam Spotlight

Chelsea Green is expressing her disappointment with the lineup for the upcoming SummerSlam event. WWE is set to host its inaugural two-night SummerSlam pay-per-view at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but notably, the Women’s United States Championship will not be defended at the show.

As the first-ever holder of the Women’s US title, Chelsea Green played a key role in establishing its significance. In a recent interview with The Ringer, she reflected on her efforts to build the championship’s prestige during her reign and expressed frustration over its exclusion from the event.

"It definitely upsets me. I feel like I really did my job with that title. When I first won that title, I didn’t stop working. I won before Christmas," Green shared.

WWE has announced 12 matches across the two nights, including one featuring Jerry "The King" Lawler. The Women’s US Championship stands out as the only women’s title not being showcased at SummerSlam, as well as the only main roster title omitted from the card.

Green also commented on how the title seems to have lost some momentum despite efforts to promote the current champion, Julia Hart. "I feel like I’m laying the foundations of this title to mean something. Unfortunately, we took a step back from it, but that’s not the girl’s fault. Every time Julia appears on TV, I make sure she is hyped. She should still feel proud holding that title, whether it’s actively featured on TV or not. We feel more can be done with it," she added.

Since Julia Hart’s victory over Zelina Vega in June, the Women’s US title has been defended just once. The belt was also excluded from the All Women Evolution pay-per-view card in July, fueling concerns about WWE’s commitment to effectively showcasing its mid-card women’s championship.

Fan Take: This news highlights a missed opportunity for WWE to elevate its women’s division by sidelining an important championship at a major event like SummerSlam. For fans, it raises questions about how WWE values its women’s titles and could signal the need for stronger storytelling and booking to keep all championships meaningful.
