On the August 1st episode of WWE SmackDown, AAA star Ross Garza issued an open challenge for the championship, which saw the surprise appearances of Mr. Iguana and Psycho Clown from AAA. Previously, Garza’s cousins, Angel and Belt, had claimed the AAA World Tag Team Championship at Triplemania Regia III by emerging victorious in a four-way match against teams including Nick & Ryan Nemez, Psycho Clown & Pagano, and the then-champions Nueva Generacion Dinamita.
During the SmackDown event, Ross Garza defended his title against an unannounced challenger. The match featured a partnership between AAA’s Mr. Iguana and Psycho Clown, who recently competed alongside Pagano in six-man tag team action at WWE’s live event in Mexico. Mr. Iguana, accompanied by La Jesca, was met with strong support from the Newark crowd. Despite their efforts, Iguana and Psycho Clown’s bid for the championship was unsuccessful due to Los Garza’s defense, ending with MTY executing a move on Psycho Clown.
Currently, Mr. Iguana holds the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship with La Heedra and recently secured a win over former WWE star Santino Marella and Laura Vice at NXT’s Verano de Escándalo.
Fan Take: This crossover appearance by AAA stars on WWE SmackDown not only boosts international wrestling ties but also adds fresh dynamics to WWE storylines, exciting fans with new matchups and potential rivalries. Such collaborations highlight the evolving, interconnected landscape of professional wrestling, promising more diverse and thrilling content for the audience.
