Zelina Vega Unveils Bizarre Vince McMahon Directive from 2021

Zelina Vega recently shared another one of Vince McMahon’s unusual requests. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vriett, Vega discussed various topics, including her win at the Queen of the Ring Tournament in 2021. She revealed that after the victory, McMahon asked her to adopt a peculiar accent for her character.

Vega explained, “That’s where the strange Australian-UK style accent began. Vince asked if I could put on an accent. I felt like I had done something wrong, but he said it was even better and told me to go for it. I thought, okay, that’s kind of cool. That’s how it all started.”

Following her tournament win, Vega rebranded herself as Queen Zelina, carrying a scepter much like Booker T. During the interview, she mentioned that she had consulted with WWE Hall of Famer Booker T before embracing the new character direction.

She shared, “I talked to Booker T right before I won and asked, ‘Is it okay if I use an accent for this character?’ He said, ‘Absolutely.’ I spoke with him and Sharmell, and they advised me to make it my own and amplify whatever feels natural.”

Vega appreciated the chance to speak with Booker T, who remains her favorite King of the Ring winner.

Fan Take: This insight into Vince McMahon’s hands-on approach to character development shows the unpredictable and creative process behind WWE personas. For fans, it’s fascinating to see how even iconic wrestlers like Zelina Vega are shaped by such unique directional choices, signaling how innovation continues to drive the sport forward.
