MJF has made his mark once again, this time in Mexico.
The AEW superstar captured the CMLL Light Heavyweight Championship at the CMLL Viernes Espectacular event on August 1, 2025, hosted in the historic Arena Mexico, seizing Averno’s long-held title.
The match concluded when MJF executed a single-leg Boston crab after delivering a low blow that went unnoticed by the referee, leading to the champion’s submission. Thus, the self-styled “American Hero” left the ring with the championship belt.
However, his celebration was short-lived. Zandokan Jr. entered the ring post-match, challenging MJF, who readily accepted. The two will face off for their titles at CMLL’s special event on August 15, 2025.
Following the event, MJF took to X to express his feelings, stating: “CMLL World Champion. And after I take down the mascot mark, I’ll be your next double AEW World Champion!!!!!”
As the current CMLL titleholder, MJF is also targeting the AEW World Championship. The big question remains: can he become a dual champion?
