Seth Rollins’ surprising comeback at Summerslam 2025, where he cashed in on CM Punk with a Money in the Bank surprise, was more than just a well-timed storyline. It was a carefully orchestrated three-week deception involving his family, the media, and even the use of crutches.
In an upcoming episode of The Rich Eisen Show (August 4), Rollins discusses the intense physical and mental effort required to pull off what many have dubbed “the scheme of the century.”
“It was unbearable to hobble around on crutches for three weeks,” Rollins confessed. “I went to the gym, dropped off my kid at kindergarten, had steak dinners, and attended shows—all while on crutches. I thought I was going to end up with a real shoulder injury. But we made it happen.”
The ruse extended to his family as well. His wife, WWE star Becky Lynch, was reluctantly involved and had to lie to friends and relatives, according to Rollins. However, their young daughter almost blew the whole plan.
“I told her I was pretending to be her dad. The first thing she did was tell her kindergarten teacher. Then she said to me, ‘Na na boo boo, I told Miss Joy.’ How am I supposed to live my life after that?” he said.
Despite these challenges, Rollins’ ambush of Punk—right after Punk emotionally defeated Gunther—stunned the crowd at MetLife Stadium and quickly became the talk of the event.
“It was an honor and a joy… The payoff was even better than I imagined,” Rollins remarked.
Reflecting on the stunt, Rollins added, “We fooled the entire world.”
Fan Take: This incredible storyline highlights the lengths WWE superstars go to create captivating moments that keep fans on the edge of their seats. Rollins’ commitment not only sets a new standard for in-ring drama but also promises exciting future twists that could reshape WWE storytelling.
