Cody Rhodes might be open to taking on another behind-the-scenes role in wrestling.
During a recent interview with Bill Simmons to promote SummerSlam, Cody, also known as the American Nightmare, discussed his connection with Triple H. When asked about the surprise surrounding his departure from WWE in 2016, Rhodes revealed that WWE executives kept tabs on him after he left, even congratulating him on his successes outside the company.
He shared, “I was shocked. He was one of the first to text me when I won a world title outside WWE. He had no reason to watch the show.”
Cody also talked about how his father, Dusty Rhodes, never saw him as a main event star but said that having Triple H in his corner gave him some reassurance. The former AEW EVP mentioned that much of his impression of Triple H came from his time working under him during his WWE run. Being around Triple H made him consider trying a backstage role again.
He explained, “Maybe because he keeps an eye on me, I don’t feel embarrassed about not having been as blessed as my dad was. I’m comforted by being around Hunter. They’re tough. If Dad could see Hunter and me together—whether at WrestleMania or press events—there’s something special about it. I’m not sure if it’s fate, but Hunter is very intense. I respect how he runs WWE and his team, and part of me wouldn’t mind another chance behind the scenes.”
Fan Take: This news is significant for WWE fans because it hints at the possibility of Cody Rhodes returning to influence WWE from a backstage role, potentially shaping the future storytelling and talent development. His unique experience as both a top performer and executive could bring fresh perspectives to the sport, benefiting WWE’s creative direction.
