Could the WWE Superstar’s Name Surface in Talks with AEW?

A recently released WWE star has hinted at discussions with AEW now that they are officially a free agent. The latest WWE roster cuts in early May saw several wrestlers from both the main roster and NXT let go, including Shayna Baszler, who had been with WWE since 2017. During her time, Baszler secured two NXT Women’s Championships and multiple Women’s Tag Team Championships.

Although Shayna reportedly re-signed with WWE in 2024 and joined the Pure Fusion Collective alongside Zoey Stark and Sonya Deville, Sonya left WWE in February after her contract expired and was not renewed. This left Shayna and Zoey off television until Shayna’s release in May.

In an interview on Ariel Helwani’s show, Shayna confirmed she is now a free agent with her non-compete clause expired. She revealed that she has held talks with various wrestling promotions, including potential discussions with AEW. Shayna mentioned her friendships within AEW as part of the reasons these conversations occurred, saying, “Obviously, that’s not a secret. I’m a really good friend with Marina. I have a lot of friends there, so there was some debate about what the future holds.” Shayna also confirmed that her WWE contract was initially set to last three years before her release in May.

Fan Take: This development is significant for WWE fans because it signals potential shifts in the wrestling landscape, with top talent exploring new opportunities outside WWE. Shayna Baszler’s move to AEW or other promotions could lead to fresh storylines and competitions, positively impacting the sport by increasing fan excitement and promoting cross-promotional rivalries.
