Sheamus Shares Insider Scoop on the “Burger vs Hamburger” Line Debate

3 Min Read

Sheamus recently disclosed the origin of the “burger after burger” phrase during an interview with Chris Van Vriette. The former WWE World Champion discussed his journey from Ireland to the US, memorable moments like slamming Mark Cuba through a table, and capturing the WWE title from John Cena early in his career.

The “Celtic Warrior” also reflected on the embarrassing viral moment involving Drew McIntyre last year. Sheamus admitted that during his hiatus, he stopped caring about his fitness and appearance, which led to online ridicule when he returned sporting new ring gear and less-than-ideal physical shape.

“I reached a point where I thought, ‘I don’t care anymore, I’ll eat whatever I want,’ and knew it wouldn’t end well,” Sheamus shared. “When I came back in my biker shorts and booty shorts, it was a disaster online—totally torn apart. At first, I was shocked, but then I embraced it and enjoyed going to parties like there was no tomorrow.”

Sheamus sustained a shoulder injury in September 2023 and was sidelined for over six months. He made his comeback on April 15, 2024, wearing his fresh green trunks. In the next episode of Raw, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus’s former tag team partner, fired the now-famous viral insult line.

The 47-year-old revealed he was the mastermind behind the insults. After noticing the harsh reactions to his return, he decided the best response was to lean into the negativity.

“I embraced it fully, and it worked well—especially the ‘burger after burger’ line,” he explained. “When Drew asked if he should say it, I told him to go for it because it was everywhere online. Twitter was full of people tearing me down. So we ran with it, and it became one of his best lines, because that’s the heart of entertainment.”

Following the next WWE draft, Sheamus was assigned to the Raw brand and began a rivalry with Pete Dunne. However, he hasn’t been prominently featured lately, appearing in only 10 televised matches throughout 2025.

Fan Take: This candid insight into Sheamus’s mindset highlights how WWE wrestlers creatively turn criticism into memorable moments, showing resilience in the face of adversity. For fans, it’s a reminder that wrestling is not just about athleticism but also about storytelling and entertainment, keeping the sport fresh and engaging.
