Chris Jericho Shares New Praise for TNA Wrestling: Latest Update

3 Min Read

Chris Jericho sparked controversy with his recent remarks comparing attendance figures between TNA and AEW, leading many well-known wrestling journalists to speculate if Jericho is distancing himself from All Elite Wrestling. These comments were made during an episode of Talk is Jericho, where notable wrestling figures reflected on their final match at TNA’s Bound for Glory event alongside The Hardy Boyz and The Dudleys.

Jericho, a former WWE and AEW Champion, praised the large crowd at TNA’s marquee event, likening it to a WWE-level show, while he compared AEW’s tapings at the ECW Arena to the smaller-scale tapings of Tony Condello’s promotion. Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer recently discussed Jericho’s statements, offering his perspective on their implications for the future. Speaking on WOR (via Wrestle Purists), Meltzer said:

“’Bound for Glory’ looked great on TV, but Arena Mexico, which hosts shows three times a week, is better and louder… The AAA, Triplemania, and Juan de la Barrera events are more electric.”

“New Japan at the Tokyo Dome is on another level. AEW’s pay-per-views look strong, but at best, Bound for Glory seemed like the fifth-best promotion globally.”

While Meltzer took issue with some of Jericho’s comments, he acknowledged Jericho’s savvy in creating buzz around his contract status. Meltzer added:

“It looked better than AEW’s show when we were at the 2300 Arena, which is true. Chris is clever, and I’m sure he has a plan. I don’t fully grasp it, but it certainly sparked conversation.”

“When I first heard it, I thought it might hint at a move away from AEW, but I’m not sure because I don’t know his current mindset.”
