The movie adaptation of the beloved video game Twisted Metal is officially returning, with Peacock confirming a third season. David Reed, known for his work on The Boys and Supernatural, will step in as showrunner and executive producer, replacing Michael Jonathan Smith, who has ended his involvement with the series, according to the streaming platform.

This renewal comes after Peacock’s impressive viewership for season two, which achieved the second-highest ratings for any original scripted show on the service, boasting 993 million minutes watched. Reed, a WGA Award-nominated writer, director, and producer, currently works as a writer and executive producer on the popular Prime Video series The Boys and holds a general TV contract with Sony Pictures Television.

The half-hour dark comedy is adapted from the classic PlayStation game series and centers on John Doe (Anthony Mackie), a charismatic outsider navigating a post-apocalyptic world. He is saved by Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz), a fierce car thief wielding an axe, but they encounter threats including the crazed clown Sweet Tooth (voiced by Will Arnett and portrayed by Joe Senoa, aka AEW’s Samoa Joe). The cast also includes Anthony Carrigan as Calypso and Tiana Okoye as the vigilante Dollface.

In season two, the story revolved around the dangerous Twisted Metal tournament organized by Calypso. The season concluded with John and Quiet preparing for an intense showdown in season three after Calypso wrongfully accused them of killing the audience, igniting a war between Insiders and Outsiders. Reed will executive produce the upcoming season alongside Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Anthony Mackie.

Anthony Mackie, who stars as John Doe and serves as an executive producer, is also gearing up for a significant film role. He will star in and executive produce the new Marvel movie Captain America: Brave New World, currently in post-production and scheduled for a 2026 theatrical release.
