WWE Legend Kevin Nash Opens Up About How His Wrestling Journey Triggered Respiratory Illness

2 Min Read

WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash has faced significant health challenges throughout and after his wrestling career. His troubles began with a torn ACL sustained while attempting to play basketball professionally in Germany, which ended that career path. Over the years, Nash has dealt with ongoing health concerns, including the potential need for neck fusion surgery, and a recent discovery of scar tissue on his heart that may have caused a mild heart attack decades ago—a particularly alarming issue given that his father died young from a heart attack.

Nash’s wrestling career also took a toll on his health. Notably, in 2002, he was sidelined for months due to a biceps injury, followed by a nine-month recovery from a torn quadriceps. However, beyond these painful injuries, Nash revealed that repeated broken noses from wrestling contributed to respiratory problems later in life. On the podcast Kliq This, Nash and co-host Sean Oliver explained that their use of apnea masks to aid breathing was due to multiple nose fractures sustained during their wrestling careers. Nash stated, “My nose doesn’t work. My nose was broken so many times that I couldn’t breathe.”

Fan Take: This revelation highlights the harsh physical sacrifices wrestlers make, extending beyond immediate injuries to long-term health issues. For WWE fans, it’s a sobering reminder of the toll the sport can take on its athletes, underscoring the importance of ongoing health care and support for performers during and after their careers.
