Rey Mysterio Set for Exciting Singles Match Comeback Tonight on WWE RAW

2 Min Read

Rey Mysterio, who recently made his return to the ring alongside John Cena in what was Cena’s final WWE Raw appearance, is set to make his official comeback to singles competition on Monday night. According to WWE’s official site, Mysterio will be facing J.D. McDonough, with the match being promoted on X (formerly Twitter) prior to the event.

Last week at Judgment Day, Mysterio teamed up with Cena and Sheamus to defeat the team of McDonough, Dominik Mysterio, and Finn Balor. Rey initially returned on the November 3 episode of Raw to challenge his son Dominik, who held both the Intercontinental and AAA Mega Championships at the time. Rey has expressed frustration over Dominik calling himself “the king of the luchadores,” hinting at a potential new rivalry between father and son—a tension rooted in Dominik’s betrayal back in September 2022 when he joined the faction Judgment Day along with Rhea Ripley.

Mysterio had been sidelined by a groin injury just before WrestleMania 41 in April, which forced him to miss the event. He also revealed he was recovering from a ruptured eardrum and was managing other physical issues while on vacation. Though he hoped to return by August, it took longer than expected. His last match before teaming with Cena was on April 18 on SmackDown, where he, Dragon Lee, and Rey Fenix beat The Creed Brothers and Chad Gable.

Fan Take: Rey Mysterio’s return to singles action is a thrilling moment for WWE fans, blending nostalgia with fresh storylines, especially with the brewing rivalry involving his son Dominik. This comeback not only reignites interest in one of wrestling’s most beloved characters but also promises compelling drama that could shape WWE narratives for months to come.
