Claudio Castagnoli Teams Up with AEW Partner for Upcoming CMLL World Title Clash

2 Min Read

CMLL has announced through a video message from Claudio Castagnoli that the AEW star will be bringing his Death Rider allies to Arena Mexico this week to challenge Gran Guerrero for the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship. The match is scheduled for November 28th during the Vierne Espectacular event. Castagnoli will be accompanied by Daniel Garcia and Yuta Wheeler, though Jon Moxley, PAC, and Marina Shafir will not be attending. This absence hints at possible rising tensions within the group, particularly with Moxley continuing to struggle in the ring.

Following the match against Guerrero, regardless of the outcome, Castagnoli and his team must quickly return to AEW for the Continental Classic tournament, where Castagnoli will compete alongside stablemates Moxley and PAC. The round-robin format guarantees at least one meeting between Castagnoli and Moxley, as they compete in the Blue League, while PAC is part of the Gold League.

This isn’t Castagnoli’s first time wrestling in CMLL; earlier in 2024, he participated in three matches at Arena Mexico and was part of the co-branded Wrestle Dynasty event. Currently, Gran Guerrero holds the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship, having reigned for 1,114 days since winning the title from Hexero in November 2022. Guerrero has defended the title only seven times, including a recent successful defense against AEW’s Beast Moltos on November 23rd.

Fan Take: This news is exciting for AEW fans as it marks a significant crossover event that highlights AEW talent on an international stage, potentially elevating the profile of all involved. The match could shift momentum in both promotions and spark new rivalries that enrich the global wrestling scene.
