WWE Superstar Believes He Was the Ideal Final Rival for John Cena

As John Cena gears up for his penultimate WWE match at Survivor Series this Saturday, longtime adversary CM Punk was asked who he believed would be the ideal final opponent for the 17-time champion. Recently, WWE has been showcasing a “Last Time is Now” tournament featuring 16 wrestlers vying to become Cena’s final challenger in the December 13th main event.

Many of the participants are rising talents, including Gunther, Solo Sikoa, and LA Knight. During an interview on the Up & Adams Show with Kay Adams, Punk expressed that a match between him and Cena would have been the “perfect” final bout. However, he feels Gunther is the likely candidate to seize that opportunity, given his impressive skills and the fact that Punk has firsthand experience facing him in the ring.

Punk commented, “Maybe I was the perfect one. Right now, I don’t know if it’s perfect, but it’s similar to Gunther because I’ve been in the ring with him and I know what he can do. And I don’t know who else can beat him in the tournament right now.” Recently, Gunther triumphed over Carmelo Hayes on Raw and will now face Solo Sikoa in the semifinal round, after Sikoa defeated Penta on Monday.
