AEW CEO Tony Khan has revealed the new team names as the tag team tournament progresses to determine the first-ever champions. The AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship tournament will see Harley Cameron and Willow Nightingale competing in the finals, while Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa face Megan Bain and Marina Shafir in the semifinals.
Bain and Shafir formed a team quickly due to an injury to Bain’s usual partner, Penelope Ford, yet they moved forward after defeating Tejay in the opening round. Before the second semifinal match, Khan promoted the upcoming bout on social media, naming the pair of Bain and Shafir as “Mega Problems,” combining Bane’s nickname “Megasus” and Shafir’s “Problem.”
In contrast, Storm and Shirakawa go by “Timeless Love Bombs,” and the finalists Cameron and Nightingale are called “Angry Babes.” The semifinal clash between Mega Problems and Timeless Love Bombs, airing this week on AEW Dynamite, will be a Hardcore Holiday Deathmatch.
Fan Take: This update is exciting for AEW fans as it adds personality and intrigue to the tag team tournament, setting the stage for intense rivalries. The unique team names and the hardcore match format promise high energy and unforgettable moments that could elevate the tag team division’s prominence in AEW and the sport overall.
