Joe Doering is currently facing a tough fight against brain cancer once again. His sister-in-law, Mandy Vine, shared an update on GoFundMe, revealing that Joe is battling his third brain tumor and is undergoing radiation therapy alongside his first round of chemotherapy.
Mandy explained, “Hi, I’m Mandy. My brother-in-law has been fighting a brain tumor for the past decade and is now in his third battle. Joe has started radiation and chemotherapy, which will likely continue for another five months. Over the last 10 years, Joe and my sister have shown incredible determination and strength. I want to help ease the financial stress caused by the medical bills and the time my sister has had to take off work to support Joe’s treatment and rehab.”
She also highlighted the challenges the family has faced, particularly since Joe has no nearby relatives in Canada, making things even harder for her sister. Mandy described the physical impacts of Joe’s recent brain surgery in 2022, which affected his right side and his ability to move.
“After the surgery on his brainstem, Joe developed ataxia on his right side, seriously affecting his motor skills. He’s been working hard in physical therapy but mainly relies on a wheelchair, uses a walker, and needs help with stairs. This is a huge shift from his days as a professional athlete,” she shared.
Despite these challenges, Joe remains determined and optimistic. Mandy wrote, “Even with all these difficulties, Joe stays focused, strong, and refuses to feel sorry for himself. He’s fighting this battle with tremendous personal courage. Now, after 10 years, it’s important we show him love and support as he faces this latest challenge.”
Joe originally fought cancer in 2016 and made a comeback to All Japan Pro Wrestling in 2017. He joined TNA wrestling in 2020 and stayed with the roster until 2022, when his cancer returned, leading to surgery soon after.
