Mercedes Monnet has had a tough time with the number 13 in her championship journey, and her upcoming opponent recently responded to this challenge. After unifying Red Velvet’s ROH Women’s World Television Championship, Monet is set to face her once more in a decisive match. Velvet gave up the title, leaving Monet with 12 wins and struggling with stress and anxiety. Adding to this, Monet’s next rival mentioned her recent ROH title loss before their battle for the Undisputed British Women’s Championship.

Monet is set to defend her Undisputed British Women’s Championship against Rio at Revolution Pro Uprising on December 14th. Rio took to Twitter to taunt Monet, tweeting, “The collapse has begun!!! See you next weekend @MercedesVarnado 👀.” Monet responded to the jab simply with “shut up.”

Monet has held the Undisputed British Women’s Championship since winning it at AEW Wrestle Dynasty in January by defeating Mina Shirakawa in a Winner Takes All match for both the New Japan Strong Women’s Championship and the Rev Pro Title. Since then, Monet has successfully defended her title against Kanji, Sapphire Reed, and Emmasyn Jayne, with the last victory also securing her the Destiny Wrestling DW Women’s Championship in August.

Mercedes Monnet is ranked number one in the 2025 PWI Women’s 250, showcasing her dominance in the sport alongside the other top competitors.

Fan Take: This storyline adds a thrilling layer of rivalry and pressure that AEW fans thrive on, as Mercedes Mone’s championship reign faces a serious test. The buildup to her match with Rio not only keeps fans hooked but also highlights the growing significance of women’s wrestling within AEW and beyond.
