AEW’s yearly winter pay-per-view event, World’s End, is approaching quickly. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the event will take place on Saturday, December 27th, at Chicago’s NOW Arena, featuring a preliminary card lineup.
Following tradition, World’s End will showcase the second semifinal and final matches of the Continental Classic tournament, where the winners of the Blue League and Gold League will compete for the AEW Continental Championship. Currently, Konosuke Takeshita, the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion, and Claudio Castagnoli, the CMLL World Heavyweight Champion, are leading the Blue League with six points each. Meanwhile, on the Gold League side, "Protostar" Kyle Fletcher and fellow Don Callis Family member and reigning Continental & International Champion Kazuchika Okada are tied with six points.
AEW World Champion Samoa Joe continues to be dominant and aggressive, having successfully defended his title for the first time at AEW Dynamite: Winter is Coming last Wednesday. Despite this, he could be challenged in a multi-man match involving Swerve Strickland and "Hangman" Adam Page. Although Strickland and Page joined forces last Wednesday to defeat the powerful duo of Hobbs and Katsuyori Shibata, these former rivals might not stay united as they both aim to reclaim the world championship. On the women’s side, "The Poisonous Spider" Thekla is set to challenge the AEW Women’s World Champion "Papa" Kris Statlander.
So far, 5,839 tickets have been sold for the 9,100-seat venue. Fans can expect more developments leading up to the event, with "Countdown to World’s End" airing this Wednesday following the three-hour "AEW Dynamite & Collision: Holiday Bash" special from Manchester, England.
Fan Take: This upcoming event is crucial for AEW as it not only advances key storylines but also highlights international talent, adding fresh excitement. With potential multi-man matches and intense championship battles, World’s End could shape AEW’s direction and solidify its reputation in the wrestling world.
