AEW’s Colt Cabana Reflects on Future Beyond the Ring

2 Min Read

Colt Cabana has experienced quite a journey over the past ten years. Despite having a falling out with CM Punk years before both joined AEW—a situation some say contributed to Punk’s troubled stint in the company—Cabana has maintained a relatively low profile. He has spent much of his time wrestling in mid-card roles in both AEW and ROH and has now shifted more towards working as a producer while still occasionally performing.

In a recent interview on Close Up with Renee Paquette, Cabana discussed this career change. Although he enjoys his producing role, he admits that the performer inside him will always want to stay active in front of an audience. He shared how finding alternate ways to express his performance skills, such as doing comedy shows at the Lincoln Lodge in Chicago or streaming on Twitch, helped him prepare for life after active wrestling.

“I love performing, I really do,” Cabana said. “Through wrestling, I realized how much I enjoy performing. As my in-ring career starts winding down, I take comfort in knowing I can still get on stage and do a comedy set or stream on Twitch, or even do a podcast. That’s why I love professional wrestling so much—it brings together so many different forms of performance.”

Fan Take: Colt Cabana’s transition from in-ring talent to producer while keeping his creative spirit alive off-camera highlights the diverse paths wrestlers can take within AEW. For fans, it’s encouraging to see a wrestler evolve and remain passionate about entertaining audiences, which only strengthens the storytelling and depth of the sport.
