AEW wrestler Kyle Fletcher recently shared the most excruciating moment he endured during a match, describing it as feeling like he was “throwing up blood.” Known for extreme stunts involving thumbtacks and high-risk moves from cage tops, Fletcher said the “baby” version of a superplex caused him the most pain. On the podcast Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Fletcher recounted his bout with Mark Briscoe at the 2024 Continental Classic Blue League. He described climbing a guardrail when Briscoe stopped him, leading to a “baby superplex” off the guardrail to the floor. The impact hit his tailbone in such a way that it felt like he was coughing up blood and had an intense, unbearable sensation. Lying on the ground, he desperately wished for a moment to recover. Fortunately, Fletcher was unharmed physically and did not actually vomit blood, though the pain was overwhelming.
Briscoe defeated Fletcher on the AEW Collision’s Winter is Coming episode last December and again at AEW Full Gear in November, when Briscoe claimed the TNT Championship. Fletcher has also revealed that he and his tag team partner Mark Davis had discussions with WWE before opting to sign with AEW.
Fan Take: Kyle Fletcher’s candid account shines a light on the physical sacrifices wrestlers make, enhancing the respect fans have for AEW’s high-risk performances. This kind of transparency also deepens the emotional connection between wrestlers and fans, emphasizing the real danger and dedication behind the thrilling sport.
