Bruce Pritchard Unveils the Sole Requirement for Joining TNA

3 Min Read

Bruce Pritchard made a brief but notable return to television in 2017 as an on-screen executive for TNA before heading back to WWE. Pritchard shared insights on how the opportunity came about and why he eventually chose to leave.

Pritchard revealed that Jeff Jarrett, recently reinstated to run Anthem, contacted him with a proposal. Pritchard made it clear that he wanted no part in the demanding behind-the-scenes roles he had done for years.

"He understood my boundaries — I didn’t want to handle creative duties, production, or daily talent management," Pritchard said. "The plan was for me to focus solely on being an on-air talent, serving as a symbol for the company. That was the entire offer."

He found the experience of working purely as an on-screen character refreshing. Pritchard enjoyed performing without the stress of managing the show.

"Jeff often sought my input or ideas, and that period was the most enjoyable I’ve had in quite some time," Pritchard admitted. "I just had to show up, play my role, and collect my paycheck — no extra worries."

Eventually, Pritchard left due to conflicts between his growing podcast tour and recording commitments. He described the departure as quick and friendly.

"I emailed Bob Ryder and Ed Nordholm asking for my release," Pritchard recalled. "I signed the release, scanned it, and sent it back while on a call with Ed and Bob."

During Pritchard’s 2017 tenure, TNA collaborated with WWE NXT, facilitating an unprecedented exchange of talent between the two promotions.
