As rumors about his return gain momentum, Alberto Del Rio has confirmed he’s in active discussions with both WWE and AAA.

In an interview with La Tijera Lucha Libre, the former WWE Champion was asked whether he wanted to join the ongoing collaboration between WWE and AAA, especially since Rey Mysterio hinted at his comeback, fans have been chanting his name at joint events, and petitions have emerged calling for his return.

The Mexican wrestling star didn’t shy away from the question, indicating his strong interest in being part of this partnership.

“Do you want it? Of course I want it. As I’ve mentioned, we hold back discussions out of respect for business agreements within both the wrestling industry and beyond, but we’re always in touch.”

This statement highlights his readiness, as he waits for the right business circumstances to align. However, he remains optimistic, stressing that his current choices are fueled by passion, not pressure.

“These days, I focus only on what truly brings me joy and fulfillment. If it doesn’t make me happy, I simply won’t engage.”

Del Rio pointed out that some wrestlers merely coast after landing a lucrative deal, implicitly contrasting himself with those who “just get paid” and don’t give their all in the ring.

“What they seek is transparency. A guy who is always dedicated. As you know, there’s never a match where I miss showing up for an Alberto Del Rio fight. Many stars appear for a paycheck but only give a brief performance or just hang around.”

While a contract hasn’t been finalized, the interest from both parties suggests that an agreement is on the horizon, just waiting for the opportune moment.

“It’s about properly laying out the expectations from both sides. Either it happens, or it doesn’t. If it doesn’t fulfill me, I won’t pursue it. It’s a matter of time. As long as I want it—and they want it—we’ll stay in continuous contact. All that’s left is to finalize the agreement.”

Whether this handshake will take place in 2026 remains uncertain, but Del Rio is prepared, and fans continue to chant his name, eager for his return.
