WWE is set to return to Puerto Rico in 2026 for another major live event, with sources confirming that Backlash will be held in San Juan. According to multiple insiders speaking to Post Wrestling’s John Pollock and Brandon Thurston, WWE has scheduled Backlash for Saturday, May 9th, at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, the same arena that hosted the successful 2023 event.
Although WWE has yet to officially announce this, someone with access to WWE’s internal calendar revealed that Backlash will occur three weeks after WrestleMania 42, which is scheduled for April 18-19 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
The 2023 event in Puerto Rico was a major success both financially and critically, with SmackDown drawing 14,282 viewers and generating $1.04 million in revenue, while Backlash attracted 15,145 fans and earned a $1.45 million gate. These events also benefited from approximately $1.5 million in grants and an additional $300,000 in-kind support from the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority.
It remains uncertain if similar financial incentives will be available in 2026, as local officials have not responded to inquiries and WWE has not made an official statement. Post Wrestling plans to provide updates if they receive any official responses.
Though not confirmed, fans are already speculating about the possible return of Bad Bunny, who was a standout star at Backlash 2023 and received rave reviews. The global music icon is planning a world tour in 2026 but has no scheduled performances from March 1 through May 26, potentially leaving room for his participation.
If confirmed, Backlash 2026 would further strengthen WWE’s growing connection with Puerto Rico, establishing the island as a significant global hub for professional wrestling events.
