As the Peacock era concludes, Netflix steps up to become the new home for more WWE content

In early 2025, WWE revealed a multi-year partnership with Netflix, leaving questions about Peacock’s future role in hosting WWE events and programming. Beginning January 2025, Netflix became the new platform for airing Monday Night Raw and all international premium live events like WrestleMania and SummerSlam. This shift ended the Peacock era, with a vast collection of WWE archival content transferring to Netflix, giving fans a new destination for both current and historical WWE material, though some hosting details remain uncertain.

On January 1st, Netflix expanded its WWE offerings by adding a significant amount of archive footage, including all three main WWE premium events: Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, and SummerSlam. Other classics like Bad Blood, Backlash, Inside Your House, as well as unique shows like Capitol Punishment and Capital Carnage also joined the platform. Additionally, Netflix hosts newer events such as Wrestlepalooza, which first aired on ESPN, though ESPN retains first-run rights for future WWE premium live events.

With the archive migration to Netflix, only a few WWE contents remain on Peacock, such as the latest Saturday Night Main Event featuring John Cena’s retirement match and a 2009 special called Best of Saturday Night’s Main Event. The whereabouts of earlier Main Event episodes, including Goldberg’s retirement match from July 12, remain unclear. Peacock will continue to stream all NXT premium live events until March 2026.

While Netflix is now the go-to platform for some WWE content, not everything has transitioned there. Archives from WCW, ECW, WCCW, and other regional collections are unavailable on any streaming service currently. Reports suggest that some content like WCW and ECW might appear on YouTube through "Vault" style channels, but it’s uncertain if all will be uploaded. As of now, Netflix, Peacock, and WWE have not provided updates on the full return of this classic material, so fans must wait patiently for more of these treasures to resurface.

Fan Take: This transition is a major shift for WWE fans, as it centralizes premier live events and historic content on one major streaming platform, making it easier to access WWE’s rich history. It also signals an evolving digital strategy for the sport, potentially broadening its reach and engagement through Netflix’s global audience.
