MJF Proposes Defending AEW World Title at Next Indie Showdown

2 Min Read

A new year brings fresh opportunities for pro wrestling stars, and one independent wrestler is about to seize a major chance in just two weeks. AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) announced on X that he will return to his roots in Maine for Limitless Wrestling’s Limitless Rumble event on January 16th. If he’s still the AEW champion by then, MJF promised to put his title on the line against Alec Price, a regular at Limitless Wrestling.

Alec Price, known as “The Prize City OG,” is a former Limitless World Champion and is said to bear quite a resemblance to MJF. In a social media promo, MJF described Price as loud, skinny, and persistent—traits similar to those MJF had in his early days. MJF challenged Price by saying, “Fame comes at a price. Can you rise to the occasion? If you hold Triple B until I return, I’ll test you. But I won’t lose this title for long—I’m Maxwell Jacob Friedman, and I’m better than both you and Alec Price for a long time.”

MJF also hinted that he might lose the AEW World Championship before the Limitless Rumble because he must defend it against Bandido, the 2025 Dynamite Diamond Ring winner, at AEW Dynamite: Maximum Carnage in Phoenix on January 14th. Recently, MJF reclaimed the AEW World Championship by pinning Samoa Joe at AEW World’s End.

Fan Take: This news is thrilling for AEW fans because it signals a rare AEW title defense on an indie show, bridging the gap between major promotions and independent wrestling. It adds unpredictability to MJF’s reign and showcases AEW’s influence extending beyond its usual platforms, possibly inspiring more cross-promotional moments in the sport.
