Madison Rayne has officially hung up her boots and retired from professional wrestling.
The veteran women’s wrestler announced her retirement following a match alongside Deonna Purrazzo during the January 1 episode of ROH TV, where they faced off against Billy Starks and Diamante. This match marked the conclusion of Rayne’s 20-year career, which included tenures in several prestigious promotions.
After the match, Rayne shared her thoughts in a backstage interview, revealing that while making the decision was tough, it felt like a natural progression.
“I knew that time would come. That time comes in everyone’s career.”
She opened up about the personal nature of her decision, explaining that the loss of her father had a profound impact on her, leaving her with much to process. Rayne acknowledged that while this loss diminished a part of her, it also instilled a renewed sense of purpose beyond the ring.
“I lost a part of myself when I lost my father, but I am refining myself as a coach.”
Rayne remains actively involved behind the scenes in AEW and ROH, where her coaching responsibilities have become a significant aspect of her life. Rayne’s wrestling career began in 2005 when she made her debut under the ring name Lexi Lane. Over the years, she established herself as a pioneering figure in women’s wrestling, particularly during her time with TNA Wrestling, where she became a five-time TNA Women’s Knockouts Champion and a three-time TNA Women’s Knockouts Tag Team Champion, playing a key role in the growth of the Knockouts division.
Her extensive career also includes appearances in Ring of Honor and All Elite Wrestling, along with a memorable participation in WWE’s 2018 Mae Young Classic. In August 2022, Rayne signed with AEW, transitioning into a coaching position while still wrestling as needed, ultimately leading to this poignant farewell.
