After the January 1st episode of "ROH on Honor Club," wrestling veteran Madison Rayne announced her retirement from in-ring competition, marking her tag team match with Deonna Purrazzo as her final bout. This moment was deeply emotional for both wrestlers, especially since Rayne had been a longtime mentor to Purrazzo.

In an interview with Gabby AF, Purrazzo described their bond beyond wrestling, calling Rayne her "fairy god sister." She credited Rayne for believing in her more than she believed in herself, helping her secure opportunities in TNA and AEW. Purrazzo expressed pride in being part of Rayne’s farewell match in Columbus, Ohio, her hometown.

The pair initially reunited in a tag team match on the December 11 episode of ROH on Honor Club, teaming up to defeat Billy Starks and Diamante. Interestingly, Purrazzo wasn’t originally slated to participate in every Ring of Honor recording.

Purrazzo shared how their reunion happened unexpectedly in Columbus when AEW President Tony Khan suggested they team up, even though Purrazzo had a personal commitment that day. Rayne, who joined AEW-ROH in 2022 as a coach and part-time wrestler, had a storied career with TNA as a multiple-time champion and commentator.

Purrazzo also revealed her desire to compete alongside Rayne for the new AEW Women’s Tag Team Championship, highlighting their strong chemistry. However, their January 1st match would also mark the end of Rayne’s wrestling career.

Fan Take: This heartfelt farewell highlights the powerful mentor-mentee relationships that elevate AEW’s women’s division, adding emotional depth to the sport. For fans, it’s a poignant reminder of legacy and the passing of the torch, signaling exciting future storylines and partnerships in AEW.
