Edge (Adam Copeland) recently commemorated the sixth anniversary of his memorable comeback at the 2020 WWE Royal Rumble. Initially forced to retire in April 2011 as World Heavyweight Champion due to a serious neck injury, Edge stunned fans by returning to the ring nine years later during that Royal Rumble event. Marking six years since that unexpected return, Edge shared his reflections on Instagram, discussing his WWE comeback, his current tenure with AEW, and acknowledging that he is approaching the final phase of his wrestling career.
He expressed:
“I didn’t realize today marked six years since my Royal Rumble return. Every moment since the ‘You Think You Know Me’ entrance in Houston has felt like a triumph. Honestly, I wasn’t meant to be here for this long, but here we are—six years later. If someone had told me back then that I’d still be wrestling now, I’d have probably thought they were crazy. I’ve been incredibly fortunate. I feel like I’ve had my dream career twice: once before I retired, then again after coming back. But I’m realistic—I’m nearing the end.
I hope fans have enjoyed this journey as much as I have. Looking back on my 40 years in wrestling, after all I accomplished in WWE, I started fresh with new rivals in AEW and had the chance to work with incredibly talented wrestlers I never thought I’d face. It’s been a blast. At this stage, I only commit to things if they’re the best, so thank you all.”
Edge departed WWE in 2023 after a final bout against Sheamus on SmackDown in Toronto, later making his AEW debut at Wrestle Dream in October.
Fan Take: Edge’s lasting impact and smooth transition from WWE to AEW underscore his enduring influence on professional wrestling, making his journey especially meaningful for AEW fans. His continued presence not only elevates AEW’s profile but also highlights a new era where wrestling legends help bridge generations, adding depth and excitement to the sport’s future.
