WWE’s Leading Superstar Faces Uncertainty for Royal Rumble After RAW Injury

3 Min Read

WWE has announced that Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio might miss this Saturday’s Royal Rumble after sustaining an injury during last night’s RAW. Mysterio was competing against Austin Theory when he seemingly hurt his ribs, and he was also seen limping during the match.

Although Rey is scheduled to participate in the Royal Rumble event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, his future in WWE could be uncertain due to this injury. His son, Dominik Mysterio, is already out of action with a shoulder injury suffered in December at AAA Guerra de Titans. Wrestling experts Brian Alvarez and Dave Meltzer speculated that Theory might have also been injured during a hurricanrana move, potentially experiencing ataxia.

If Rey’s injury is serious, he will join an increasing number of prominent WWE wrestlers currently dealing with injuries, including Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio, Seth Rollins, Sheamus, Kevin Owens, and Bianca Belair. Rey, regarded as one of the greatest luchadores in professional wrestling history, is nearing the end of his career and has faced multiple injuries over recent years.

In other Royal Rumble news, Brock Lesnar is confirmed to compete in the 30-man elimination match. Reports from PWInsider.com indicate that Lesnar, known as the Beast, will appear at the Riyadh event, although WWE has yet to officially confirm his role. Lesnar last appeared in November at War Games alongside The Vision and Drew McIntyre and has been making occasional appearances since his return at last year’s SummerSlam, following a two-year break.

Speculation suggests this could be Lesnar’s final year as a professional wrestler, with this potentially being his last Royal Rumble. Although initially rumored for WrestleMania 42, John Cena recently suggested Lesnar might retire at SummerSlam in Minneapolis. Lesnar’s opponent for WrestleMania has not been announced, but there is talk of a showdown with Gunter, who will face AJ Styles with his career on the line at the Royal Rumble.

Fan Take: This news is crucial for WWE fans because Rey Mysterio’s potential absence highlights the physical toll wrestling legends endure, possibly signaling the end of an era. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar’s participation promises high-stakes excitement, marking a significant moment that could define the future landscape of WWE.
