AEW Young Bucks Forced to Scrap Plans After Injury Setback

3 Min Read

AEW was forced to cancel a planned match involving The Young Bucks due to an injury to one of the participants. Since AEW’s beginning, Matt and Nick Jackson—known as The Young Bucks—have been key figures, holding the World Tag Team Championship three times and previously winning the inaugural and twice the World Trios Championship alongside Kenny Omega.

During a recent Being The Elite Mailbag episode, The Young Bucks were asked if they had any matches canceled, with injury issues among AEW wrestlers coming up in the discussion. Nick Jackson revealed that they were set to compete against the Golden Lovers—Kenny Omega and Kota Ibushi—but the bout was scrapped because Ibushi suffered a serious leg fracture. He added that this was supposed to happen a few months back, not at Revolution, but the match never materialized, leading instead to a six-man tag team match.

Kota Ibushi has been out of action since October of the previous year, and he has recently shared that his recovery could take up to two years. Recently, The Young Bucks fought alongside Josh Alexander at Full Gear in a six-man tag victory over Jurassic Express and Kenny Omega. Beyond their November 22 AEW pay-per-view appearance, The Elite reunited on AEW Dynamite’s December 17 Holiday Bash, defeating the Don Callis Family in the Million Dollar Challenge.

Ibushi’s last six-man tag match before his injury took place on January 7 Dynamite, teaming with Jack Perry to beat The Demand faction. Additionally, Matt Jackson mentioned that a different match planned against the Outrunners has also been canceled. This was not the same match as their quarterfinal bout in last July’s AEW World Tag Team Eliminator Tournament.
