AJ Styles hints at continuing his wrestling journey beyond WWE retirement talks

AJ Styles may currently be stepping back from regular competition in the ring, but that doesn’t necessarily mean his wrestling career is over. Earlier reports suggested that Styles’ journey with WWE concluded following the Royal Rumble, but recent updates hint that he might still have some chapters left to write.

An update shared on Wrestling Voting Radio via Fightful Select indicated, “AJ Styles is done as an active wrestler, but he may not be completely done.” Neither WWE nor AEW insiders have any definitive information about Styles’ next move, leading to growing speculation without any confirmed plans. Despite his low-key departure from in-ring action, WWE insiders apparently believe Styles isn’t fully finished with professional wrestling yet.

Sources speaking to Fightful Select’s WrestleVotes Radio also noted, “Sources they spoke to within WWE believe that AJ Styles is, in some sense, not done with pro wrestling.” Adding to the intrigue, Stephanie McMahon, when asked on a podcast, carefully responded with a “never say never,” keeping possibilities open for Styles’ future.

This aligns with rumors that had been circulating even prior to Styles’ retirement announcement, where backstage conversation marked him as a hot topic. As of February 3, AEW had not extended any offers to Styles, but sources within the company expect they would pursue him if the chance arose. Meanwhile, New Japan Pro Wrestling is also reportedly monitoring Styles closely, especially in light of recent talent shifts.

Thanks to AEW’s close ties with New Japan Pro Wrestling and the respect Styles commands from WWE leadership, he occupies a unique position capable of appearing on multiple promotions’ cards. Those close to him say he is financially secure and creatively satisfied, giving him the freedom to pursue wrestling on his own terms without being driven solely by money.

Fan Take: This update is exciting for WWE fans because it suggests that AJ Styles could still have big moments ahead, possibly even surprising returns or cross-promotional appearances. His potential continued involvement adds a layer of unpredictability and excitement to the wrestling world, signaling that his influence on the sport may endure far beyond his “retirement.”
