Tony Khan and AEW have had a strong year overall, but Khan’s other wrestling promotion, Ring of Honor (ROH), has remained relatively quiet except for a few pay-per-view events throughout the year. A major factor behind ROH’s low profile is the absence of a television deal, limiting its exposure to the HonorClub streaming platform.
Khan is looking to change this situation, though securing a TV deal is challenging in an environment where many media companies have already partnered with WWE. Nevertheless, during an appearance on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Khan expressed optimism about ROH’s potential to secure valuable media rights under the right conditions.
He explained, “Yes, absolutely. When opportunities arise to do something meaningful with ROH, we consider them seriously. AEW’s current media rights agreement, particularly with Warner Bros. Discovery, is exceptional and perfectly suits our needs. While AEW continues to thrive with this relationship, I do believe there’s space for ROH to find its place on platforms like Collision or pay-per-views, and we have had promising discussions in that regard.”
Although ROH has received offers from various networks, Khan emphasized that no deal has met the right criteria yet. He indicated a preference for continuing discussions with Warner Bros. Discovery, AEW’s current media rights partner. “If we pursue a deal, we’d prefer to work with Warner Bros. Discovery, but it must be beneficial for all parties involved. It doesn’t need to match AEW’s deal in size, but it has to be substantial and logical for everyone,” Khan added.
Fan Take: This news is important for AEW fans because expanding ROH’s presence on TV could provide fresh storylines and talent exposure, enriching the wrestling scene overall. A successful ROH media deal might also boost competition in the industry, which often leads to better content and opportunities for wrestlers and fans alike.
