WWE’s Trick Williams Reveals TNA’s Resentment After Winning Title from ‘Average Joe’ Hendry

3 Min Read

Last year, Trick Williams transitioned to TNA and captured the TNA World Championship by defeating Joe Hendry at Rebellion. He then went on to beat Hendry again at WWE NXT Battlegrounds. Even though Hendry was unsuccessful in reclaiming the title months later, tensions between the two wrestlers seem to persist. On the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Williams minimized Hendry’s attempt to win back the championship, delivering some sharp remarks.

Williams shared, “I saw it as a chance to directly challenge ‘Average Joe,’ the titleholder. I thought, ‘He doesn’t really know what to do with that championship.’ Initially, I was only at Rebellion to back my partner Rush Legend, but I decided to take the moment and make it about myself.”

Following his championship victory, Williams held onto the title for 140 days, competing across both TNA and NXT. He revealed that backstage reactions from the TNA roster showed clear displeasure at their top prize being held by someone else.

“They definitely didn’t like me,” Williams admitted. “All the time. I understand it though — a young, dark-skinned, talented guy like me coming into their brand and winning their titles, even calling them out in promos. I don’t really blame them, but sometimes that’s what’s best for business.”

A few on the TNA roster, including former WWE star AJ Francis (known as Top Dollar), were welcoming to Williams. Still, most TNA wrestlers seemed to snub him, although Williams might be amplifying the supposed animosity between the two companies for the storyline.

Currently, both Hendry and Williams are part of the WWE roster, which leaves open the possibility of a renewed rivalry down the line.
