WWE recently revealed that it is open to buying other promotions if it feels like it values your library or serves the purpose of continuing to run. Most of these business transactions came while Vince McMahon was running the promotion. WWE If it makes sense, you can start and buy multiple small businesses from the territory.
TKO has proven that they do the same after recently purchasing AAA from Mexico. Each sale differs and offers a variety of reasons for business decisions. The next move featured various results on what happened to each promotion. All major promotions purchased by WWE will be shown in detail to see what happened to them under new ownership.

CMLL and AAA are two of the most important international wrestling promotions as top companies in Mexico. AEW has worked with CMLL to try to create a partnership with WWE for quite some time until AAA occurs in the most shocking way.
Fans weren’t expecting WWE to fully purchase AAA rights and run the show in Mexico as part of an attempt to expand internationally. Jeremy Borash is reportedly the top booker running the event and will become a business mindset as AAA continues as a promotion in Mexico.

I tried brand rivalry after a reboot failed

World Championship Wrestling | 1988 | 2001 | Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat |
Vince McMahon was undoubtedly the biggest move in wrestling history when WWE bought WCW to end the war on Monday night. WCW was the only promotion that truly threatened WWE’s top spot by leading for almost two years.
For the last two years, things have gone out of control as McMahon was able to buy the competition at a cheaper price. WCW was a plan of its own until the test match failed. WWE vs WCW became a dream storyline, but it was a terrible failure to finish within a few months as McMahon just used WCW to move the library forward.
Stampede Dress Ring
I bought a Stu Hart company for the library

The Heart Family is respected and loved in Canada for its influence as a powerful wrestler. Stu Hart began everything as a great wrestler and tried to fork by creating stampede-wrestlings to highlight many of the country’s top stars and international names.
Spending the familiar faces of the Heart Brothers, Brian Pillman, Chris Benoit and other familiar faces there led to Vince McMahon reaching out to buy a stampede from STU. Because WWE made this purchase only for the library, and thus gave the history of Bret Hart and other legendary archives for various projects.

Evolving wrestling | 2010 | 2020 | Roderick Strong vs. Zack Saber Jr. |
Gabe Sapolsky began his latest creative project, Evolve Wrestling, after a successful tenure of Honor and early ECW work. Evolve has become a solid secondary independent promotion behind ROH and PWG.
Names like Drew McIntyre, Zack Saber Jr., Chris Hero, and Johnny Gargano had great runs as top indie names for Evolve. Triple H began a partnership with Evolve before WWE officially purchased the company and its library. The Evolve name and logo are currently used for independently named projects under the WWE ID agreement.
Smoky Mountain Wrestling
Jim Cornett’s company was sold to WWE
Full name for the promotion | The year of the first event | The year of the final event | Most Popular Match (via Cagematch) |
Smoky Mountain Wrestling | 1991 | 1995 | Paul Orndorff vs. Rip Rogers |
Jim Cornett is known for his podcast rants today, but he has gained a reputation for building an audience by becoming a smart mind for years. Unfortunately, one of his biggest risks was when he ran Smoky Mountain Wrestling in the early 1990s, not as successful.
Future stars such as Mick Foley, Chris Canzid, Tammy Sitch and Kane spent time at Smoky Mountain. Unfortunately, Cornett booked the promotion a bit with hokey and failed to build an audience. WWE had business relationships with SMW before purchasing the library entirely.

Respected promotion was purchased after the end

American Wrestling Association | 1933 | 1995 | Curt Hennig vs. Nick Bockwinkel |
The AWA had one of the longest history of having different incarnations over decades, dating back to the 1930s. Fans remember running AWA from the 1960s and 1980s featuring stars such as Verne Gagne, Curt Hennig, Nick Bockwinkel and young Hulk Hogan.
The company aired on ESPN made its products feel more sports-oriented in the 1980s. Especially after Vince McMahon created WWE Sports Entertainment. McMahon bought all remaining AWA assets in the early 2000s a few years after halting running events.

Texas Promotions sold the library to Vince
Full name for the promotion | The year of the first event | The year of the final event | Most Popular Match (via Cagematch) |
World Class Championship Wrestling | 1940 | 1991 | Kelly von Erich vs. Rick Flare |
Texas wrestling fans loved WCCW at the red fever show in the area and made the event a destination. All von Erich’s relatives of that era spent time honing their craft and becoming the biggest star whose fans kept paying for them to see their performance.
World Class Championship Wrestling took a big run until the territory began to suffer and the tragedy of von Erich unfolded. The promotion ceased in the early 1990s, and until 1989 the library was purchased by Vince McMahon and WWE.

Extreme Championship Wrestling | 1992 | 2001 | Psychosis vs. King Mystery Jr. |
Vince McMahon gives ECW the only chance of a competitive promotion he bought, making another run under the WWE umbrella. ECW had a strong reputation as the third major brand of the 1990s.
WWE had enough success from the ECW DVD a few years after the purchase and booked the reunion PPV. One Night Stand 2005 McMahon has decided to restart ECW as its third brand. Unfortunately, Vince has failed the project badly with changing everything fans love about ECW.
