AAA’s creative vision takes form under WWE’s wing as historic joint event approaches

Following WWE’s acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA worldwide in April, the creative leadership within the Mexican promotion has now been solidified under WWE’s oversight, with a trio leading the creative direction. According to Pwinsider, AAA Creative will be headed by Jeremy Borash, Konnan, and newly signed Hector “Moody Jack” Melendez. The announcement will be broadcast live on YouTube from the Kia Forum in Los Angeles this Saturday, coinciding with preparations for their first joint event, WWE X AAA: Worlds Collide.

Konnan has long served as an AAA booker, while Borash was introduced as WWE’s representative on the creative team. As WWE’s Vice President of Content and Development, Borash brings extensive experience from his time at TNA Wrestling and his current role managing WWE’s content initiatives. The inclusion of Melendez is a strategic move to align the creative visions of both organizations. Speaking to Controna, Melendez expressed excitement about his new role, calling it the best moment of his life given his experiences. Puerto Rican announcers and producers like Melendez have deep ties to both AAA and TNA, having worked alongside Borash in the past.

WWE revealed its acquisition of AAA during WrestleMania 41 weekend, in partnership with the Mexico-based entertainment company Fillip, with the deal expected to close in the third quarter of 2025. The formation of this creative team highlights WWE’s effort to integrate AAA into its global operations while preserving the cultural essence of Mexican wrestling. Both Konnan and Melendez are set to attend the Worlds Collide event this weekend, with Melendez also visiting the WWE Performance Center recently alongside Puerto Rican wrestling veteran Savio Vega.

Saturday’s event will showcase a crossover between WWE’s NXT brand and AAA wrestlers, featuring El Hijo del Vikingo defending the AAA Mega Championship and a fatal four-way contest for the NXT North America Championship. Industry insiders see this creative structure as WWE’s method of honoring AAA’s Lucha Libre heritage while utilizing WWE’s production capabilities and worldwide reach to grow the Mexican promotion’s fanbase.

Fan Take: This partnership is a major win for WWE fans eager to see fresh, culturally rich wrestling content, blending the high-flying Lucha Libre style with WWE’s polished presentation. It could redefine how international wrestling collaborations are presented, potentially elevating the sport’s global appeal and diversity.
