The new TNA champion has been crowned.
WWE announced its Battleground PPV tonight this year from the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. The show featured many exciting matches, including Stephanie Verker, who defeated Jordyn Grace to maintain the NXT Women’s Championship.
The main event of the show was a trick where Williams challenged TNA world champion Joe Hendry for the title. The match was filled with several interesting spots, including Williams doing Spinroni and Hendry trying to get the rock bottom.
The TNA champions won the match almost towards the end when they gave a standing ovation after a series of moves. However, the trick managed to step into the ropes at the final moments.
The action then left the ring and Williams sent a viral star through the announcement desk. Trick then grabbed the title belt, but Hendry caught him with a pin attempt before using it as a weapon. After a nearby fall, Trick delivered a trick shot to the title belt, becoming the new TNA champion.
This is the first time a top act from one company has been booked to hold titles from other companies in the WWE-TNA partnership.
It would be interesting to see how this whole thing works. Hendry’s TNA contract expires later this year, so he’ll have to see if Williams will drop the title on him or if a new candidate will appear after tonight.
