Shayna Baszler, a WWE star who was released in May, may have already returned to the company in a behind-the-scenes capacity. Reports indicate that she worked as a game producer for the WWE NXT episode that aired this week.

Cory Hays of Bodyslam revealed that Baszler, the former NXT Women’s Champion, was credited as the producer for the match between Kerani Jordan and Rainey Reed on the July 8th NXT show. Chris Girard, previously known as Oney Lorcan, was also listed as a producer for the same match. This role is commonly part of a trial phase where ex-wrestlers transition into full-time backstage positions within WWE.

Baszler’s release from WWE last May reportedly surprised many since she had recently re-signed with the company in 2024. Her last in-ring appearance was on the April 11 episode of SmackDown, where she teamed up with Zoey Stark and Sonya Deville as part of the Pure Fusion Collective faction. Despite being under a 90-day non-compete clause, her move to a backstage role marks an intriguing new chapter in her career.

She was among several talents released in May, including Braun Strowman, Dakota Kai, and Cora Jade. Kai has hinted at a comeback on the independent circuit using her previous ring name, while Jade has been active on various platforms.

Fan Take: This news is exciting for WWE fans as it signals that beloved wrestlers like Shayna Baszler can continue contributing to the industry even outside the ring. Her transition to a backstage role could bring fresh perspectives to WWE’s production, potentially enhancing the quality and creativity of future shows.
