MJF is set to make an appearance alongside the highly anticipated Adam Sandler film Happy Gilmore 2, but this isn’t evident from WWE’s coverage. According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Netflix planned to promote Happy Gilmore 2 during the June 16 episode of WWE Raw, but WWE made it more complicated than expected.
Reportedly, just before Netflix’s ads aired on Raw, WWE requested a version of the trailer that excluded MJF. As a result, the trailer shown on-air omitted scenes featuring the AEW star, even though other versions of the promotional material prominently included him.
MJF isn’t the only wrestling star in Happy Gilmore 2: Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella also appear. WWE had no issue featuring the women on their show, but since MJF, a former AEW World Champion, has a more prominent role in the movie, WWE seemingly chose to downplay his presence.
Regardless of the behind-the-scenes politics, attention is now shifting to the film itself, which is set to premiere on July 25. With its star-studded cast and buzzing fan conversations, Happy Gilmore 2 is expected to be a major summer highlight.
Fan Take: This news highlights the ongoing rivalry between WWE and AEW, where even film promotions become battlegrounds. For AEW fans, MJF’s involvement in such a high-profile project underscores the growing mainstream appeal of their wrestlers and could help elevate the sport’s visibility beyond the ring.
