In recent months, several former WWE talents have been making moves to new wrestling promotions. While Shotzi has signed with Major League Wrestling and ex-NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Indy Heartwell has joined TNA Wrestling, former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion Isla Dawn is reportedly set to join AEW. According to Wrestlevotes Radio, Dawn has appeared at AEW TV tapings, and the company, overseen by Tony Khan, is very interested in signing her. She is expected to debut on AEW programming soon, although her specific role remains unclear.

Dawn has prior connections with AEW wrestlers, including Mercedes Martinez and current AEW Women’s Champion Toni Storm. Dawn faced Martinez in a tag match at Shine Wrestling in 2018 and has shared rings with Storm both in WWE and on the independent circuit with promotions like Revolution Championship Wrestling, Empress Pro, and Pay. She last wrestled on the February 12 episode of WWE Speed and is scheduled to compete at the Wrestling Under the Stars event at Northeast Stress Ring on July 19.

Dawn was released from WWE in early February amid a wave of layoffs, while her tag partner Alba Fyre remains with WWE, currently part of Chelsea Green’s Secret Service on SmackDown. Together, Dawn and Fyre held one reign as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Fan Take: This news is exciting for AEW fans as Isla Dawn’s addition brings a fresh and skilled talent to the women’s division, potentially boosting competition and storytelling. Her existing chemistry with top AEW stars like Toni Storm could lead to compelling feuds and help raise the overall profile of AEW’s women’s wrestling scene.
