The abandoned WWE plan for a popular masked wrestler has been disclosed by Blake Christian, the AEW star who was initially expected to wear the mask. Blake Christian, who signed with WWE in early 2021 and performed as Trey Baxter on NXT and 205 Live, shared details about the idea during an appearance on Fightful Oversubbed. He revealed that WWE had proposed a masked “superhero” character for him. Although he designed the suit and created the character’s name, the role eventually went to someone else when NXT 2.0 launched. Christian confirmed he was intended to be the original axiom but expressed pride in how the current performer has kept the character alive.
While Christian did not become the axiom, the persona was adopted by A-Kid in WWE NXT UK in 2022, who, alongside Nathan Frazer, formed the tag team Fraxiom. This team has won the NXT tag team championship twice and currently competes on WWE SmackDown.
Fan Take: This revelation is significant for AEW fans as it highlights the creative potential that once existed for Blake Christian in WWE, suggesting AEW benefits from having such untapped talent on its roster. It also shows how character designs and creative ideas can find new life and impact the wrestling world, reminding fans that behind-the-scenes decisions can shape the future of the sport in unexpected ways.
