AEW CEO Tony Khan has officially announced the signing of Thekla to the promotion, over a month following her initial appearance. Thekla, previously a Stardom wrestler and champion, debuted in AEW in late May after weeks of on-screen anticipation.
Since then, she has become a regular competitor, including participating in the women’s casino gauntlet match at AEW All In Texas, which was won by Athena. On July 19th, Khan confirmed Thekla’s official “All Elite” status.
The delay in announcing her contract was due to a storyline probation period of 45 days following her departure from Stardom, during which she was “dismissed” after an in-story attack on Stardom president, President Okada. Khan explained that this probation started after her debut on June 4th at Fyter Fest #AEWCollision and ended recently.
In recent AEW programming, Thekla has triumphed in a $100,000 four-way match against Kris Statlander, Willow Nightingale, and Queen Aminata, with assistance from AkeeBlue and Julia Hart.
Fan Take: This official signing of Thekla signals AEW’s commitment to expanding its women’s division by bringing in top international talent. Her presence adds fresh excitement and elevates the competition, promising more thrilling matches for AEW fans and elevating the overall profile of women’s wrestling.
