In response to recent remarks about Goldberg’s retirement from WWE, AEW star MJF has stepped up to accept the WWE Hall of Fame challenge. Speaking on Busted Open Radio, MJF expressed his desire to give WCW legends a “proper send-off” in AEW rings.
MJF, who revealed that Goldberg was one of his favorite wrestlers as a child, issued a fierce challenge in his trademark style, vowing to dismantle the veteran if they ever faced off in the ring.
“If I want some Goldberg, I’m ready, but honestly, I’m embarrassed by him. I’ll break every tendon, ligament, and bone in his old, worn-out body. If he wants a proper farewell, he must face the talent of a new generation,” MJF declared.
From a business standpoint, MJF believes a bout between himself and Goldberg would generate massive interest. He acknowledged Goldberg’s reputation as an “incredibly intense mega star” and emphasized that such matchups are always highly anticipated.
“It’s a major headline event in any era, especially with names like MJF and Goldberg,” MJF said. However, he set two conditions: “First, I’d need a substantial payday to make that match happen, and Goldberg probably isn’t cheap either. So, for this to come to fruition, both sides need to agree.”
MJF’s challenge comes more than a week after Goldberg’s official retirement match in WWE, where he lost to world heavyweight champion Gunther in a main event special on July 12. Goldberg later expressed frustration with the match’s duration and production quality during a post-match interview.
Fan Take: This challenge could ignite a thrilling cross-promotional storyline that AEW fans have been longing for, blending the legacy of wrestling giants with the new generation. If realized, it would not only boost AEW’s profile but could also create some unforgettable moments in wrestling history.
