ROH TV Debate Allegedly Evolves into Yet Another AEW Media Partnership

2 Min Read

In recent years, there have been various rumors about Tony Khan actively seeking a media rights deal for Ring of Honor (ROH). Although no deal had been reached, a new report from Fightful Select reveals that these discussions eventually led to a different agreement for Khan. While Khan had a target figure in mind for ROH’s TV contract, he couldn’t meet it. However, a new deal was finalized for truTV to start airing reruns of “AEW Dynamite” on Friday nights, beginning in January.

Khan has talked with multiple media companies about ROH over the years, but none of these talks have progressed toward a finalized contract. Speculation about the “AEW ShockWave” series was largely unfounded and more of a pitch to Fox rather than something in active development. Last year, AEW and Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) agreed to a media rights deal set to begin in early 2025 and run through 2027, with an option to extend into a fourth year. Khan owns both AEW and ROH, and while ROH events are taped during AEW shows, ROH was not included in the WBD media rights agreement. For now, ROH’s weekly shows will continue to be streamed on its own subscription service.

Fan Take: This update is significant for AEW fans as it clarifies that ROH isn’t yet ready for a bigger TV push, but the truTV deal helps keep AEW’s presence strong during the weekends. It also signals that Tony Khan is still exploring ways to expand his wrestling brands, which could lead to exciting developments for the sport in the near future.
