Since teaming up with WWE, TNA Wrestling has gained more exposure than ever before. Although the promotion is expanding, it still has a long way to go before it reaches the level of a major competitor like AEW. Speaking on “The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy,” Matt Hardy, the current TNA Tag Champion, shared why the company doesn’t yet see outdoing AEW as a realistic goal.
Hardy said, “I think TNA will continue to thrive, but our goal isn’t to be better than AEW or any other promotion. We’re focusing on competing with ourselves and becoming the best we can be.”
It was suggested that TNA is working towards securing media rights deals to help air their weekly shows on new TV platforms. While this hasn’t happened yet, Hardy remains hopeful. He emphasized that AEW’s media rights deals play a big role in their success and believes that once TNA signs a similar contract, it will significantly improve their reach.
Hardy noted, “Getting a platform that truly connects with viewers would change everything.”
He also mentioned that though TNA doesn’t expect to become the second most successful promotion in North America soon, there are plenty of growth opportunities. Hardy believes TNA can attract some of AEW’s fans and draw closer in attendance numbers, especially with the increase in live broadcasts like “TNA Clash!”
