Sonya Deville Opens Up About Uncertainty in Wrestling Beyond WWE, Declares She’s Retired “For Now”

Sonya Deville, who spent nearly ten years with WWE, parted ways with the company in February 2025 after her contract was not renewed. Since then, she has explored MMA and worked on her first major film role, leaving her wrestling future uncertain. In an interview with “Insights with Chris Van Vriette,” Deville said she is currently retired from wrestling but left the door slightly open for the future. She expressed that wrestling outside WWE feels like an unresolved chapter because WWE was her home from age 21 to 31, a place she holds close to her heart. Though unsure of what lies ahead, she feels at peace and authentic in the path she’s currently on.

Deville’s wrestling journey started with “WWE Tough” Season 6 in 2015, after which she signed with WWE and trained with WWE NXT. By November 2017, she joined WWE’s main roster with fellow Tough alumni Mandy Rose and Paige, forming a group known as “Pardon.” Later, she was part of another faction called the Pure Fusion Collective alongside Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark. This group was short-lived as Deville left WWE in early 2025, with Baszler departing shortly afterward.

Fan Take: Sonya Deville’s departure marks the end of an era for a loyal and dedicated WWE performer whose journey many fans followed closely. Her retirement, even if temporary, raises important questions about WWE’s talent retention and the evolving opportunities for wrestlers outside the company, which could reshape the wrestling industry’s future.
