Ashante “The” Adonis became a free agent when his WWE contract expired on August 10th, marking the end of his second stint with the company. He had returned to WWE in 2022 as part of the Hitrow faction, one of the many rehirings overseen by Chief Content Director Paul “Triple H” Levesque.
According to sources from WWE and reported by Fightful Select, Ashante—also known as Tefty Miles—was informed several weeks ahead of his contract’s expiration. Though he had been performing for NXT over the past year, he was still under a main roster WWE contract.
An NXT colleague praised Ashante’s dedication, noting that besides training at the performance center, he also put in additional training on his own time. Despite his efforts, Adonis never held a championship title in either NXT or WWE’s main roster during his tenure.
The report also reveals that talents from TNA have expressed interest in recruiting him. Ashante participated in a promotional event for Jake Something in January 2025 as part of the ongoing WWE-TNA collaboration. Prior to joining WWE, he competed in ROH before it was acquired by Tony Khan.
With no restrictive non-compete clauses, Ashante is free to join any promotion immediately. Behind-the-scenes support suggests it may only be a matter of time before fans see him competing again in the TNA ring.
Fan Take: This development is significant for WWE fans because it opens the door for Ashante “The” Adonis to potentially shine in a new environment, possibly revitalizing his career. For the sport, his movement highlights the growing fluidity between promotions, which could lead to exciting cross-company storylines and fresh matchups.
