A prominent NJPW star has reached out to the current champion following the announcement of a match at AEW Forbidden Door 2025. The event, scheduled for August 24th, will feature a high-stakes light-out steel cage match. Participants include John Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, the Young Bucks, IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion Gabe Kidd, Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Darby Allin, Kota Ibushi, and Hiroshi Tanahashi.

This match carries significant weight as it marks Tanahashi’s final bout in the UK and Gabe Kidd’s comeback after an injury that forced him out of the G1 Climax Tournament after just one match. Following the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door announcement, Shingo Takagi expressed his desire for Kidd to appear at NJPW this weekend, emphasizing Kidd’s importance as NJPW’s champion and encouraging him to recover fully and compete at Korakuen Hall.

The semi-final and final G1 Climax events will take place at Ariake Arena on August 16th and 17th, respectively. As of now, Takagi has not been announced for the Forbidden Door event. Additionally, another big star has been confirmed for an AEW title match at Forbidden Door.

Fan Take: This news is huge for AEW fans as it promises a thrilling cross-promotional clash featuring top NJPW talent like Gabe Kidd and Tanahashi, adding layers of excitement and drama. Such marquee events not only elevate AEW’s global wrestling presence but also push the sports entertainment boundaries, delivering must-see moments for fans worldwide.
