Buzz Builds Around TNA Sale: Who Are the Potential Buyers in the Spotlight?

3 Min Read

Recent unverified rumors have surfaced regarding the future of TNA Wrestling, indicating that Lorenzo Fertitta, the former UFC owner, might play a role in the potential sale of the company. This development emerged shortly after reports that TNA is considering a Wednesday night broadcast move amid ongoing media rights negotiations.

The rumor originated from Shaun Ross Sapp of Fightful, who initially mentioned it on Twitter. He later elaborated on Fightful Select that Fertitta’s name came up during a recent meeting. Additionally, Conrad Thompson shared a GIF saying "Lorenzo!" Sapp was informed that Fertitta responded to circulating wrestling rumors suggesting his involvement with TNA. Fertitta previously owned UFC before it was sold and placed under the TKO Group Holdings umbrella, which now owns WWE.

This speculation aligns with a Sports Illustrated report by Jon Alba, who stated that TNA is planning a Wednesday night slot and is willing to compete against AEW as part of media rights discussions. Both SI and Fightful noted that TNA President Carlos Silva did not deny these rumors when contacted.

Talk of selling TNA is not new. Fightful reports that Anthem Sports & Entertainment, which once owned TNA, has been scouting potential buyers, including former TNA president Scott D’Amore. Past rumors also involved Billy Corgan’s unsuccessful 2016 bid and occasional WWE interest.

AEW President Tony Khan has also been linked to the possibility of buying TNA, having been approached about it before AEW started and once more a few years ago, though he declined. Sources suggest AEW isn’t interested now because most TNA talent is tied up in the ROH library rather than directly with TNA.

Sapp emphasized the unconfirmed nature of these reports, stating, "We haven’t verified this regarding TNA’s sale, but it was expected to surface soon, so we provided as much context as possible." The situation remains uncertain, with Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer hinting at significant news on the horizon.
