Vince McMahon will always remember the legacy that Hulk Hogan created.
In 2002 at WrestleMania, Hulk Hogan faced The Rock in a match billed as “Icon vs. Icon,” bringing together two legendary figures from different wrestling generations. The event took place in Toronto, where fans showed support for Hogan despite his villainous Hollywood Hogan persona at the time. This iconic match was replayed several times as both wrestlers have since been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Reflecting on the “real Hulk Hogan” documentary, Vince McMahon recalled that memorable match and the significant double turn that happened between Hogan and The Rock at WrestleMania X8.
McMahon said, “You always want to give the fans what they want. Seeing these two legendary figures clash is something special. Fans were cheering for Hogan, but in a unique way that they truly felt. Moments like this are magical and pivotal in both of their careers.”
Hogan passed away on July 24th after suffering a heart attack. Though his legacy is complicated by controversy, he remains beloved by millions of wrestling fans. Some WWE superstars reportedly had reservations about participating in Hogan’s 10 Bell salute.
During a TMZ special, Vince McMahon also defended Hogan, insisting that the wrestling icon was not racist despite the various controversies surrounding him.
